Tattoo Aftercare Guide
Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is essential for optimal healing and to maintain the beauty of your new ink. Follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth recovery:
- Keep it clean: Gently wash your hands with antibacterial soap and water, then gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean towel.
- Moisturize: Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or ointment specifically designed for tattoo aftercare 2-3 times a day. Avoid petroleum-based products.
- Don't scratch or pick: Your tattoo will scab over as it heals. Resist the urge to scratch, pick, or peel the scabs, as this can damage the tattoo and increase the risk of infection.
- Avoid soaking: No baths, swimming pools, or hot tubs for at least 2 weeks. Showers are fine, but avoid direct streams of water on the tattoo.
- Protect from the sun: Once your tattoo is fully healed, apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect it from fading.
If you experience any signs of infection, such as increasing redness, swelling, pus, or fever, contact your tattoo artist or a medical professional immediately.
